Helen A. Dunken, born May 16, 1918 in Auburn, New York to Mr. and Mrs. Pollak, died May 13, 2005 in Tacoma, Washington.When she was still an infant she moved to Syracuse, New York with her family. She was brought up in a loving family with two brothers and a sister. Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.Helen attended the Syracuse public schools and graduated from Syracuse Normal School where she learned to be a teacher and taught in the Syracuse school system.In May 1940, Helen and Allen met on a blind date. Allen was in the U.S. Army in Watertown, New York and they saw quite a bit of each other. Allen left for the U.S. Army Air Corps and learned to be a fighter pilot. He spent 19 months flying missions with the 8th Air Force in England and returned in July 1944. They were married on August 7, 1944. Together they saw and served in many places in the United States and Japan.Helen was well known for her work as a volunteer with the Red Cross and other worthy organizations. She also was always active in the Officer Wives Clubs where they went and was president of several.Helen played in several bridge clubs and enjoyed golf.Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2005 at St. John Bosco Catholic Church.
