Hazel Reay's Obituary
Hazel Pearl Lindsay/Reay was born on November 23, 1916 in Wendell, Idaho, the youngest in a family of ten children. She passed away at age 97, in Surprise, Arizona where she had lived for the past 9 years.
Hazel and her mother moved to Tacoma when she eleven years old. She went to California as a young teenager to live with her sister, Ethel McAvoy, and worked her way through Beauty School, she graduated at age 14.
She married Harry Lindsay in 1933, they had three daughters. She owned a beauty shop for many years in the north end of Tacoma. Later, she had a beauty shop at Toby Jones Retirement Home and from there she retired after 25 years.
After retirement, she loved gardening, fishing, travel and time with her children and grandchildren. She volunteered at the Point Defiance Senior Center and also was involved heavily in the VFW across the street.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry. She is survived by her three daughters, Laura Lickteig (husband, Frederic), Judith Griffin, and Harriet Toon; twelve grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.
She was a loving, generous mother, and grandmother and she will be greatly missed. She was truly a lovely lady.
