Harold Brooks Prescott's Obituary
Harold Brooks Prescott’s train arrived on the evening of April 15, 2018. He was born November 12, 1926 in Tacoma to Gladys and Waldo Prescott and lived most of his life in the north end. Harold attended Sherman Elementary, Mason Junior High, and graduated from Stadium in 1944. Harold inherited a love for music from his mother and was an active member of the concert band and orchestra playing the saxophone and clarinet from junior high through college. Following high school, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the last months of WW II. After his discharge, he attended the College of Puget Sound (UPS), where he was a charter member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, cultivating strong relationships and lifelong friendships. In 1951, Harold graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and began work with the Department of Highways(WSDOT). The majority of his 37-year career as a highway engineer was spent in the Pierce County area. Harold was instrumental in the design and construction of the local sections of the interstate highway system as well as SR 16 through Nalley Valley and SR 512.
In October 1951, Harold married Pamela Davis. They built their home and raised their three daughters in Tacoma. The family found joy in camping trips and many gatherings with their close Westgate friends. In retirement, Harold enjoyed a very active social calendar. He spent time in the activities of his daughters and their families. Golf and model railroading remained strong interests as well. Harold shared early morning visits with the “coffee boys”, and monthly lunch dates with the ROMEO’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out), and the “Lunch Bunch”. Harold remained keenly aware of the news of the day, expressing his opinions about the politics of our time. The family would like all of Harold’s friends to know how much he appreciated their friendships over the years.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, brother George, and wife Pamela. He is survived by his daughters Alicia (Andy) Delegans of Marysville, Connie (David) Perry of Tacoma, and Marsha (Dennis) Brady of University Place; grandchildren Brooks (Michelle) Werner, Briana Brady (Ryan) Kurth, William Brady; and great grandchild Dax Werner; several nieces and a nephew.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and private caregivers Harold had over the years along with Hospice and Narrows Glen staff for their care and support. In memory of Harold, donations may be made to Mary Bridge Brigade-Westgate, MS: 311-1-MBB, P.O. Box 5299, Tacoma, WA 98415-0299.
