Harold Palmer Kellogg's Obituary
Harold Palmer Kellogg passed away peacefully at age 97 in his son's home on April 3, 2008. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 30, 1911. He grew up on a homestead ranch in Garfield County, Montana, and graduated from Garfield High School in Jordan, Montana in 1929. He worked at various ranches as a cowboy, and then worked on the construction of Fort Peck Dam from the beginning to the end of that project. In 1934, he eloped with Helen Osborn and they enjoyed 72 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on November 1, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Kellogg and brother, Kenneth Kellogg. Harold trained as a welder and moved his family to Washington State. He worked during WWII for Todd Shipyard. In 1946, he joined the Operating Engineers, Local 612, and worked for General Construction Company on the dredge "Missouri" for 27 years on the waters of Puget Sound and Alaska. After retirement, he and Helen enjoyed many years of travel in their RV, and camping on their property at Fawn Lake. He is survived by his daughter, Kay Gordon of Silverdale and son, Dennis (Jean) Kellogg of Tacoma, and his sisters Virginia Osborn, Ruth Maxie, Mary Owens and brother, George Kellogg. He also left beloved grandchildren: Mitchell (Sherrie) Gordon, Laura (Steve) Lutz, Gregg Gordon, Roderick (Beverly) Gordon, Tina Bowman, Katy (Jared) Ruckle, and David Kellogg, plus eight great grandchildren: Stephen, Justin, Scott, Matthew, Brianne, Madeline, Jessica and Asa. Remembrances may be given to Hospice or a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 10 at 2:30 at Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Tacoma. A reception will follow in the Celebration of Life Chapel on site.
