Harley L. Brown's Obituary
Harley L. Brown, Jr., 78, went home to his Savior Jesus Christ June 21, 2003.Born in Kansas City, MO, to Ruth and Harley Brown October, 30, 1924, he moved to Oklahoma as a baby. He graduated from Afton High School, Afton, OK in  42 before joining the Army in  43. He served as a medic before extensive injuries during the invasion of France; he recovered at Madigan. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other medals.He later graduated from N. E. A&M, Miami, OK and returned to Tacoma, WA to began his federal career at Mt. Rainier Ordinance Depot. He relocated often for career advancement serving as a Federal Classification Specialist as a civilian for the US Army and ACS before retiring from the Small Business Administration in 1986. He served over 38 years. As a member of American Legion Lakewood Post 187 he held many positions including 2 terms as Post Commander.Harley loved Jesus, Nancy, family, Oklahoma, the Class of  42, hunting, fishing and his dogs Brandy and Cricket. He was proud of his Cherokee heritage and 6 Sound to the Narrows finishes. His easy going manner was the trademark of his life. He was respected and loved by all who met him.August 7, 1982 he married the love of his life, Nancy. They enjoyed over 20 years together traveling the U.S. and spending time with family and friends.He is also survived by sister, MaryAnn (John) Castillo; son, Greg (Louise), Moses Lake, WA; daughters, Linda Brown, Tacoma, Ruth (Danny) Beligotti, Havelock, NC, Diane Brown, Tacoma, Randy (Alli) Jarvis, Washington, DC, and Niki (Wade) Tomlinson, Boise, ID. He had 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson, plus special friends, David McEachern and his daughter Jasamine and Jermaine Yeldon.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church ofLakewood building fund, 5602 112th St SW, Lakewood WA 98499 or FranciscanHospice, 3901 South Fife, Tacoma, WA 98405Services will be at 11am, Thurs., June 26, 2003 at Lakewood Baptist Church with burial to follow at Tahoma National Cemetery
