I met Hardwick thought his friend Helen. I loved his stories. I liked how he always related what he was working in the police force at the time of what ever story he was telling. I liked the friendship he and Helen shared. It was a honor to be in his company.
I know his family must have loved having him in their life for so long.

Bob and family,
It was through efforts to explore our family ancestry that I spent time with Hardwick personally and on the phone the past few years. I feel deeply honored to have spent the time with him visiting about his family and ancestors; he was very proud of his family and their accomplishments. I loved hearing his stories and repeating them to my family; they don't make them like him anymore; he was one of a kind. I had deep respect for his beliefs, his stubborness and love of his family. Thank you, Hardwick, for sharing your time with me and my ancestral pursuits; the tears you shed when I left visiting with you the last time are now shed by myself. Go in peace and I pray I will join you on the other side.

Psalm 90:10 states that a normal life span is 70 years but if because of special mightiness 80 years. Mr. Smith certainly lived a long life and I'm sure was dearly loved by his friends and family. May you all be comforted by the promise God assures us of in his word the Bible of a time very near, when he will wipe away all sickness and death. (Rev. 21:4,5)
Hi Bob
Condolences to you and your family. Hardwick was always the 'Big Guy' in the family. A monument to clean living; nonsmoker, moderate drinker and habitual exerciser, solid family man and father. A role model for us all. I remember visiting 'Hardwick and Martha' in the old house on the hill and exploring the attic where Hardwick kept his weights and did his workouts. The Xmas dinners at the house on Wapato Lake. I think we kids were fortunate to have a solid family to grow up in. For Jim, Sharon and me it was Uncles Hardwick and Bill as good role models.
So sorry for your loss.
Cousin Bill
Hardwick did indeed love to share his stories -- and I always loved hearing them. Over the years he had stopped by often to visit me at work. We would share stories of our past and we always managed to get a laugh or two out of them. He embodied that wonderful era where men were raised to be tough but still possess the manners of a gentleman. A fine man who will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family and his many friends.
