1SGT Hade W. Barnes "TOP" Another member of "the last of the big time spenders" has passed away. Our beloved Papa finally found peace after several months of illness. Now, he rejoices in the presence of the Lord. Papa was born May 9, 1930 in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi to Willis and Lannie Barnes. He passed away at home on April 14, 2010 with his loving family at his side. In 1953, Papa married the love of his life, Ollie Wilkes, our dear mother, who preceded him in death. Four children were born to their union: Hazel, Delphine (Cleveland), Sandra, and Elaine; 5 grandchildren: Monica, Adrian, James, Christian, and Cameron; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Papa proudly served 22 years in the US Army, and fought in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS. After retiring from the military, he was employed by McNeil Island, WA Department of Corrections. During his tenure at McNeil, he received numerous plaques and certificates that portrayed some of the various achievements of his career. He had 27 years of dedicated service with McNeil Island. Papa loved all sports, especially Monday night football. He was an avid bowler in his early life. He also enjoyed a good game of pinochle with his buddies at McCord NCO Club. Papa had a heart that was large, loving, and generous. He was kind to everyone, especially those in need. He would tell you his greatest accomplishment was his wonderful children and grandchildren, of whom he was proud and loved so dearly. His cat Chester held a special place in his heart. Thanks to Franciscan Hospice, his caregivers, family members and friends for their help to Papa during his illness. Funeral services will be held Wed., April 21, 2010 at 11:00 am, Mountain View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood. Viewing will begin Tue., April 20, from 1-9 pm at Mountain View.
