Gregory Fernandez Goins,'s Obituary
Gregory Fernandez Goins, Sr. was born to the union of James Fernandez Goins and Doris Marie Goins. Being the oldest child of four Greg was a leader in his own right.Greg graduated from Ernest Rhigetti High School in 1963 and went on to join the United States Navy where he served for seven years. His tour of duty included several trips to The Republic of Viet Nam. Greg received several letters of appreciation from his commanding officers recognizing his willingness to go above and beyond the call of his duty. After his regular tour of duty, he went one step further to continue service in the US Navy Reserves.Greg was always a competitive and enthusiastic sports participant. He enjoyed baseball, swimming, golf and especially bowling. His many trophies were only one of his many prides. Greg was sure not to leave the youth in his communities out of his sports activities. He also was coach/manager and sponsor of several little league teams in the Los Angeles area.Greg was always a motorcycle enthusiast and belonged to a few motorcycle clubs to include: the Brothers of the Sun, Los Angeles Chapter where he took on the handle of ,"Six Pack," and most recently the local Harley Davidson Motorcycle Club ,"The Harley Owner,'s Group,". Greg also belonged to the Carpenters Local Union #131, Seattle. In 1989, Greg joined the Prince Hall Masonic Family where he moved through the ranks to become Worshipful Master of J C Logan Lodge.Gregory was called home on June18, 2007 as a result of a well fought battle with lung cancer. For all who knew Greg he was a very determined person who didn,'t give up easily, and his battle with cancer was no different.Greg was preceded in death by his father, James Fernandez Goins, his brother, James Robert Goins and son, Gregory Fernandez Goins, Jr.Greg is survived by his mother Doris Marie Goins, of Tacoma, WA, brothers, Samuel J Goins, and Jon M. Goins, Sr. and wife Rose Goins, of Tacoma, WA, son James Gregory Goins of Seattle, WA, daughters, Krishtina Brumfield of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Trysha Goins-McPhearson of Palmdale, California and a host of grandchildren.Gregory spent his last days with his special friend Ann Newman (Little People) of Tacoma, WA.Viewing will be held from 11:00-9:00 Thursday, June 21 and Friday, June 22, 2007 at Mountain View Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 23, 2007 in the Mountain View Valley Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM , Monday, June 25, 2007 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
