Grace Francess Guiler
Gardening with God
Grace Francess Guiler left this earth to be with her beloved husband Edwin L. Guiler on February 10, 2009. As a devoted wife, she was married to Edwin for 45 years.
She was born on February 13, 1925 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Mary Clendinen and Ivan Williams. She worked for Caribe Hilton Hotel in Puerto Rico. Grace met her husband Edwin while he was serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Buchanan in Puerto Rico. The couple married on October 5, 1956. Grace and Edwin eventually made their home in Tacoma, Washington with their 5 children in 1965.
She was a loving and supportive Mother and Mother- in-law to children- Sharon, Yolanda (Barham), Humberto, Norma, Ed and Angelina DeWindt -Smith (step daughter) and Son- in- Law, Bruce Barham.
As a devoted wife and mother she always made holidays and bar-b-ques special with her homemade cooking . One of her signature dishes was arroz con habichuleas (rice with beans).
Her devotion to her family was matched by her faith in God. She began each day reading from her prayer book and giving thanks for her life's blessings. She was also an active member of St. Joseph/ St. John Episcopal Church in Lakewood for over 35 years.
Grace was an avid gardener who spent most of her spare time caring for her flowers and vegetable gardens. Some of her favorites were rhododendrons, geraniums, roses and Martha Washingtons.
Her loving and caring spirit will also be missed by:
Grandsons (step), Andrew and Jason Barham, Cousins- Ellen Newton Prince and Valerie Newton Jacobs, Sister in laws- Magdalene Pike Abraham and Enid Guiler, Nephews In Law- Conrad Guiler, Jr. Aaron and Christopher Evans, Liston Georges, Jr. Hubert Acoy, Nieces in Law- Eleanor Guiler Acoy, Lisa, Deborah & Andrea Evans, Beverly Evans Webb, Bongi Abraham Georges, Orisa Abraham, Diane Warner, Serita, Beverly and Michelle and Alicia Guiler and grand nephew and nieces in law- too numerous to mention.
