Gordon Hugh Lymburn's Obituary
Gordon H. LYMBURN Gordon died peacefully on April 30, 2009, after a short illness and surrounded by family. Gordon was born on June 12, 1920 in Hansboro, North Dakota. He was the son of Roy T. and Janet C. Lymburn, and brother to Wallace and Jean. Gordon attended the North Dakota State School of Forestry prior to serving in the Army Air Corps in North Africa and Italy during WWII. Gordon and Shirley J. Knight-Eldridge met in Tacoma and were married in September of 1945. They moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where Gordon earned his aeronautical engineering degree from St. Louis University. After graduation, Gordon went to work for The Boeing Company and the couple returned to Tacoma. Gordon worked for Boeing for 38 years, a job he enjoyed going to every day. In the past he was involved with Unlimited Hydroplane racing, acting as the crew chief on the Miss Rocket and Coral Reef boat. After he retired, Gordon enjoyed travel, gardening, attending classical music concerts and cooking chocolate chip pancakes for family and friends. He was a member of the Tacoma Primrose Society and took classes in the art of Ikebana flower arranging. Gordon is survived by Shirley, his wife, friend and dancing partner for over 63 years, and by his three children, Alison A. Ferguson, J. Blaine Lymburn, and Byron H. Lymburn. He is also survived by his sister Jean Comfort, four grandchildren, one great-grandson, and many nephews and nieces. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Lakewood, where Gordon was a member for over 40 years. Burial services will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park.
