Glenna Hines' Obituary
Glenna Hines, age 91, passed from this life into the eternal arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at Wesley Homes Lea Hill Rehabilitation Center in Auburn, WA.
Born in Atwood, KS, her family moved west looking for work when she was a young girl settling temporarily in Colorado, Idaho, and Eastern Washington before permanently settling in Tacoma. After graduating from Stadium High School, she worked as a secretary at McChord Air Force Base. Her mother often invited young soldiers home for dinner when they visited their church. Glenna fell in love with one of these young men, Forest Hines, Jr., a Kentucky native. They were married on Aug. 24, 1945 and settled in Tacoma where they raised their two children. Glenna worked as a school secretary for Tacoma Public Schools for many years. She was active in the former Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church where she served as a Bible teacher for children and adults, coordinated youth activities, sang in the choir and became like a mom and grandmother to many young people in the church. Glenna loved crafts, particularly sewing and needlework, and used her gifts to make blankets for new mothers and dresses for girls in Africa. Her husband Forrest died in 2007. In 2016 she moved to Renton to be near her daughter.
Glenna is survived by her son Don Hines and wife Myrna, by daughter Sandi Jones and husband George and by four grandchildren: Paul Hines, wife Vanessa and children Forest and Celeste; Philip Hines, wife Angela and children Caleb, Joshua, Andrew and Eliana; Wendy Noble, husband Ben and children Harrison, Paysen, and Brielle; and Katy DePina, husband Camilo.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 16 at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA, with viewing and greeting at 10:30 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. At 3 p.m. that afternoon a memorial service will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 12819 160th Ave. SE, Renton. Glenna will be buried with her husband Forrest at the Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in Glenna’s honor to China Outreach Ministries, 555 Gettysburg Pike, A200, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or to Lord of Life Preschool, 12819 160th Ave. SE Renton, WA 98095.
