I met Glen for the first time in 1974, when I was hired to teach social studies at Thomas Jefferson High School. Glen could be a quiet soul, but he had a razor sharp intellect and crafty sense of humor. He was a voracious reader whose bookshelves were filled with World War II era history books. My most vivid memory of Glen, who passed away at age 87, was the way he attacked, consumed, and completed that morning's New York Times or Seattle Times crossword puzzle. He went through the puzzles as easily as I draw tap water from a kitchen faucet. He would come into the faculty lounge early, take out the crossword puzzle, complete it and head to class....almost every day. Glen worked alongside my wife, Margaret, in TJ's World Language Department for many years. She adored and respected him. Glen was old school. He worked hard. He avoided the limelight. He just put his head down and did his job year in and year out.
Condolences to Glen's family and friends.
