Gladys Miller's Obituary
Gladys Miller of Lakewood, WA. passed away on March 12, 2020 at the age of 92 . She had been a resident of the 1st Legacy Senior Care Home in University Place. Gladys was born in October, 1927 to Anton and Amelia Nedved of Yankton, So. Dakota. She is survived by her daughters Julie Benda (Bonney Lake), Vicki Benham (Tacoma) and sons Jerome Miller (Tacoma), Daniel Miller (Puyallup) seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Dale Miller who passed away in 1987.
Even though Gladys lived alone the last 33 years of her life, she remained active and enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved being outdoors and spent much of her time doing yard work and gardening whenever possible. She would even go to her childrens homes to help with the yardwork there. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards each week with her friends.
Gladys belonged to AREWS, the Association of Retired Enlisted Wives, where she participated in various activities, and was a member of the St. John Bosco Church in Lakewood. For almost 30 years, she worked part time at the Ft. Lewis Main Chapel offering childcare during services. Her love of children was evident whenever she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All the kids that visited her knew where she always kept the cookies, and they went straight to the closet to play with the toys she kept for just such occasions. She loved them all so much and was loved even more in return.
