Giles T. Blue's Obituary
Giles T. Blue, born on May 15, 1935, in Brownsville, Tennessee. To George Blue and Sarah Virginia Smith, the tenth of thirteen children.
He moved from Tennessee with his father and siblings to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he attended high school until He was drafted into the US Army in 1957. During his service he was decorated as an Expert Gunner and Pistol Sharpshooter and was also sent overseas, where he had a lot of “fun” in Copenhagen.
Giles would tell stories of his time in the army. Like how, in Germany he and his fellow soldiers helped raise a baby deer that they found and named Duke. The deer developed a habit of smoking cigarettes with the soldiers. Or, in Texas, during basic training, Giles would sneak up onto the tanks at night to sleep, in order to avoid getting snakes in his sleeping bag.
Later, he would often express that if he were to go to Europe again, it would be Copenhagen that he’d revisit. In 1959, Giles was honorably discharged from the army.
Giles moved permanently to Washington State. He worked for and retired from the DSHS as a dedicated Social Worker for well over three decades. It was also here in Washington that he built a home in Eatonville, and he married his second wife Maria Teresa, and raised their two children, Emerson Edgar & Yezmin Elizabeth Virginia.
Giles enjoyed gardening, fishing, raising cows and playing poker with friends. He also relished watching and reading Western movies and novels. He liked cooking and in his granddaughter Zair’s unbiased opinion, made excellent grilled cheese sandwiches.
Giles leaves behind, his sister Opal Gill, his wife Maria T. Blue, his son Emerson E. Blue, his daughter Yezmin E. V. Blue and his granddaughter Zair N. Valverde-Blue, As well as a host of relatives and friends.
