Gertrude Calligan Hansen's Obituary
Gertrude Calligan Hansen was born on January 16, 1919, in Puyallup and passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2010. At 91, she is survived by her daughters Judy Nelson (John), Nancy Taylor and daughter-in-law Nia Hansen. Her grandchildren are Paul Nelson (Victoria Logan), Carey Nelson (Suzanne), Kendra Rosa (Rob) and Dan Heckman. The great grandchildren are Nyla Rosa, Liam Nelson, Aiden Nelson and Paerys Beardon.
She is survived by her sister Jayne Cornman (Doug) and brother Bill Calligan of the eight children in Ralph and Bessie Calligan's family. Her husband, Carl Everett Hansen, the love of her life, and her much loved son, Philip J. Hansen (Nia Hansen), preceded her in death.
Gertrude was an enthusiastic and loyal member of the Ahlab Court Ladies Oriental Shrine from 1969 and marched with the Patrol unit where she made life-long friends. She sewed many a pair of shorts in bright colors for the children at the Shrine Hospital. She liked to attend the Fern Hill Craft Club for the people and fun, and the Over 50 Club with her honey, Carl. She was always there for all of the family, and willing to volunteer for lots of causes. Gertrude graduated from Puyallup High School in 1936, and she and Carl were married later that year.
Please join us in a Celebration of her Life at the Mt. View Funeral Home's Aspen Chapel on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 1:00PM followed by a reception in the Willow Room. Her favorite charities included The Shriner's Children's Hospital and Burn Centers and The American Cancer Society.
