Gertie Mae Wise's Obituary
Gertie Mae Harkey Wise was born May 4, 1932 to the late Haywood and Viola Chappell Harkey in Pittsburg, Texas.
God called Gertie home Wednesday, April 27, 2017. She united with St. Beulah C.M.E. Church at an early age. She received her education from Fredrick Douglass School in Pittsburg, Texas.
Gertie was married to Mr. Edward Wise. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers (Lee Andrew Harkey Sr, Norris Harkey and one sister Eutie Birdine). Two special nephews (Louie B. Harkey Sr, Lee Andrew Harkey Jr).
Gertie was the glue that held the family together. Everyone in the family could count on auntie being there for them. She never had children, bug gave us the love a mother.
Gertie open up her own Day Care Center in 1969, and later obtained a license for foster care giving. When her father in Texas became ill, she flew down and moved him here with her and took care of him until his death.
Gertie leaves to cherish her precious memories her five nieces: Lois Johnson (Larry) Tacoma, WA, Robbie Laster, Tacoma, WA, Emma Jean Foster-Fieg, San Francisco, CA, Vickie Harkey, Los Angeles, CA, Charleen Crowder, Pittsburg, Texas. One nephew: Alvin Gale Harkey , Los Angeles, CA, and a host grand, great, and great-great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
