Gerri L. Olson's Obituary
Gerri Louise Hart was born March 3, 1963 in Martinez, Ca. to Richard Eugene Hart and Linda Nadine Hart (Harris). She graduated from Western High School in Anaheim, Ca. and started a varied and exciting life.
She married William Pippin in 1982 and that marriage ended in divorce. She then partnered with Dan White for a time. She then married Robert Moffitt in 1990 and that marriage also ended in divorce. She met Carl Olson in August of 2003 and they were married November 27, 2008 at their new home in Sequim, WA. which they had both worked hundreds of hours to complete.
During her working life she held many jobs. She worked at Jiffy Lube, drove school bus, drove tour bus, worked as a baker at Safeway, managed a restaurant, worked in several small bingo halls, was among the start-up employees at Seven Cedars Casino, worked at Emerald Queen Casino and several smaller casinos in the Tacoma/Lakewood area, and worked at a book bindery.
One of her regular casino patrons was a longshoreman and he told her there were job opportunities at the Port of Tacoma so she went to the unemployment office and got a card and went to the union hall as an unidentified casual. Thus began her career as a longshoreman. She was an active longshoreman with ILWU Local 23 of Tacoma up until her death.
Her passions in life were, first and foremost her beloved grandchildren. Second was her quilting. She gave away literally hundreds of quilts and blankets that she had sewn. She also loved to play the slot machines, sometimes successfully. She also loved to cook and had attended culinary school in California.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and uncles Dale Harris and Harvey Hart and aunt Leticia Hart.
She leaves behind her husband Carl Olson, mother Linda Spritz, father Richard Hart, step parents Karen Hart, Micheal Wimmer , and Monti Wimmer, sisters Gayle Hart, Glenda Lee, Christine Winans, children Christopher White, Douglas Moffitt, Emily Hilt, step daughter DeEtt Madoll, step sons Duane Horras, Jerome Olson, Bobby Moffitt, Donnie Moffitt, and Tommy Moffitt, grandsons Aymon Hilt and Damian Moffitt and granddaughter Alexia Moffitt, cousins David Harris and Nicole Harris, two nephews and ten nieces, and four grand nephews three grand nieces and two second cousins. She will be cremated and her ashes will be spread in some of her favorite places at a later date.
