Geraldine Merz's Obituary
GERALDINE MERZ (Nee Guinn)
February 12, 1922 - May 3, 2011
Geri was born in Linden, Texas, as part of a large family of twelve brothers and sisters. She loved Texas and the only thing that could draw her away was the love of a sailor. She met Edward Leland (Lee) Merz while he was stationed in Houston, Texas, during WW II. Lee and Geri were married March 20, 1943 and they soon had a family, a daughter, Mary-Lee, and two sons, Charles Andrew (Andy), and Leslie Wayne (Les).
Geri and Lee lived their entire married life in Tacoma, Washington, and established many dear, life-long friends, many of whom shared their love of travel, dancing, music, and family activities. Geri was a member of First Christian Church, and the BPOE Lodge #1450; Geri's greatest enjoyment and satisfactions in life came from caring for her family, and all her energy and attention was focused on their comfort and well being. Geri brought a unique spark to everything she did; she had an indomitable spirit, a huge sense of fun, and was always delighted to welcome people into her life. Her quick wit, ready laugh, and willingness to embrace life to the fullest left a lasting impression on all who knew her. After a period of declining health, Geri passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the age of 89. She is survived by her three beloved children, by five grandchildren, and three great grand children.
There will be a private graveside interment on Friday, May 13th, 2011 at Mountain View Memorial Park. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at The Weatherly Inn, 6016 North Highlands Parkway, Tacoma, at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 14th, in the Chapel and adjoining Nautical Room.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to and admiration of her physician, Dr. Andy Loomis, the staff of The Weatherly Inn, and Franciscan Hospice who provided exceptional care and comfort to Geri in her last years.
