Geraldine Mary Fordice's Obituary
We are gathered here this morning to celebrate the life of Geraldine M. Fordice. Born March 28th 1918 and passed away September 11th 2009. As a child she lived on McKinley Hill with her parents and three brothers. Geraldine joined the Royal Neighbors of America when she was 13 year old and was Oracle several times. She was a member in good standing for 78 years. As a teenager Geraldine and Merle (her brother) had a paper route and to keep in contact with Merle, Geraldine learned how to with whistle. She was proud of the fact she could still whistle at the age of 91. As a family they spent wonderful times at Mulford farm on Brookdale Road in Parkland. In the summer months they had many awesome picnics followed by a hayride in a horse drawn hay wagon. In the winter months they would have bonfires by the frozen pond and after skating they would go for the horse drawn sleigh ride. Geraldine Graduated Lincoln High School in Tacoma 1936. Her first job was as waitress at the Bonneville Hotel in Tacoma. She met Robert E. Fordice at a dance at the Collins Grange. They were married on November 24th 1937. Geraldine was married to Bob for 43 years until his death in March 1980. The marriage produced four children, Larry, Jerry, Susan and Joyce. From the four children there were 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren. The family resided in Tacoma on a farm on Golden Given Road for over 40 years. Bob and Gerry moved to Horse head Bay, Gig Harbor, WA. Where they lived until Bob death in 1980. Geraldine then moved to Canyon Terrace Estates where she met her best friend Millie Cooper. They walked three miles a day up to Summit Trading Post where they would enjoy Coffee and Donuts. She was initiated in Kapowsin Rebekah Lodge #241 in 1989. She then transferred to South Tacoma Lodge #160 in 1992 and was installed as Noble Grand in 1996. Joined the Drill Team in 1997. Geraldine also enjoyed several vacations to Mexico with Vera Faulk. She also enjoyed her vacation to the Holy Land in 1984, where she was baptized in the River Jordan. She also walked in the Palm Sunday Parade and carried a Palm Branch in Bethlehem. After her extensive travels Geraldine took care of her brother, Merle Edmunds until his death in 2001. In the following years Geraldine enjoyed her work in her lodges until she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2003. After her courageous battle for six years with Cancer the fight was lost on September 11th 2009.
