Geraldine “Jerry” Johnson
Jerry passed away August 21, 2014 at her home with her husband of 40 years, Brad at her side. Known as “Tootsie” to her family, she was born in Port Townsend, WA on July 21, 1933 to Harley Willis and Geraldine Wannamaker Willis Sebastian (both deceased).
Jerry grew up on Army bases around the world before her family settled in Olympia. She graduated from Olympia High School in 1951.
She went to work for Nalley’s Fine Foods in 1957 and after 35 years retired in 1993. During her years at Nalley’s she coordinated the company blood drives. She received numerous awards for her service culminating in the “Outstanding Community Service” award for three decades of supporting the Tacoma Blood Bank and donating a combined total of six gallons of her own blood.
Jerry and Brad enjoyed their retirement taking numerous cross country trips with their RV trailer and making regular camping trips to her beloved Ft. Worden State Park. She also filled her time enjoying her family, crocheting, playing cards and collecting John Wayne memorabilia. She was devoted to her little dachshund “Fritzie”.
Jerry is survived by her husband Bradley C. Johnson; daughters Christine (Bill) Taylor of Olympia and Sharon (Dave) McAdams of Georgia; step-daughters Cindy Johnson of Puyallup, Sandra (Barry) Dale of Puyallup; brother William “Bill” (Charlotte) Sebastian of Georgia; eight grandchildren Scott, Kyle, Rebecca, David Jr., Shawn, Drew, Matthew, Nathan and five great-grandhcildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson Daniel.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM, Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Mountain View Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the M.S. Society in her memory.
