Gerald H. Bland's Obituary
Gerald H. Bland, born at Elk Creek, Virginia on July 14, 1920, departed this life at 9:30 AM Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010. He was a veteran of WWII. As a member of the 87th FA 9th Corps, he landed with the invasion forces on Omaha Beach in Normandy on D Day 1944. Reenlisting in the Army after the war, he served in Okinawa, Japan, and Germany. After retiring from the Army in 1963, he worked for the postal system and also at Fort Lewis and McChord Officers' Clubs. He attended Cornerstone Church in Puyallup, and First Baptist Church of Lakewood, and was also a member of the Humane Society. He is survived by wife Hime, of the home, and by two nieces and one nephew living in Virginia and North Carolina. Graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 in Mountain View Memorial Park.
