Georgia Lee Satterthwaite's Obituary
Georgia Lee Young Satterthwaite
Georgia Lee passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010, in Tacoma, Washington. She was born on October 13, 1921, the second daughter of Ethel Gleason Young and Lee S. Young. She attended schools in Tacoma, Washington, Franklin and Jason Lee, and graduated from Stadium High School in 1939. She successfully completed the course in Psychiatric Attendant Nursing at Western State Hospital, and then attended the School of Nursing Education at the University of Washington. Georgia Lee was a seamstress and an excellent cook. She loved her kitchen and what she served to family and friends proved this to be true. She and Gordon were married on July 5, 1972. They had 31 years together and enjoyed their visits to the California desert for many years. Their time share at Ocean Shores, Washington was the favorite getaway where they could enjoy the ocean view, listen to the breakers, and watch the beautiful sunsets; a peaceful, quiet place. Georgia Lee was an avid swimmer and slalom water skier into her 79th year. She learned to swim at an early age in the salt water off Browns Point in Tacoma and always said she had webbed feet. She could be seen water skiing on American Lake, in the San Juan Islands, or in Puget Sound, always with a smile on her face. She never lost the spirit of Stadium High School and planned and worked on reunions each year until the 65th. She and her good friend Herman Kleiner were partners in these endeavors for many years. She was predeceased by grandparents, Dora and Clark Young, Mabel and Charlie Gleason; her parents, her only sister, Mary Gleason Moore, an infant son, Charley Newton McKernan, and her husband of 31 years, Gordon E. Satterthwaite. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Lee McKernan of Boise, Idaho (partner Patricia R. Hughes); her cousin Donald Gleason of Issaquah, Washington; two stepsons, Rodney (wife Melinda, daughters Nicole and Jessica) and Scott (wife Patricia, sons Todd and Tyler) and nine greatgrandchildren; a niece, Kim Satterthwaite (Guy and Helen Satterthwaite); and nephew, Jason Satterthwaite (Norman and Mary Jo Satterthwaite). "I always hoped I'd somehow get in the last word. I thank my family for their love. I thank all my friends (old and new) for their caring and attention during my time of need. You all know who you are. Thanks to Ales Matzenauer, MD for his care for many years. He is a good man, a fine doctor and a credit to his profession. These feelings also apply to Murray D. Nelson, DDS. I also offer thanks to my helper, Velda Ruth, who has been thoughtful and kind - a great help to me. I have one last favor to ask. Sometime when you have a glass in your hand (water or whatever!) and you think of me, pretend you are at an Irish wake and make a toast to my life. It was a good one! Bye for now. I love you all. God bless." - Georgia Lee
