George R. James' Obituary
Born in Bainbridge, NY, Oct 19, 1920, died Sept 9, 2005. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Army , attended OCS and received his commission. During WWII he served in India and Iran. When he returned to the states in 1945, he married Dorothy Iman of Raymond, WA. He then served in Korea and Germany, and together they lived in China, Japan, Washington DC, and many other places in the US. After retiring from the Army as a Major, he attended the University of Puget Sound and earned his BA in 1963. He was the administrator of Heritage Nursing Home for several years. He enjoyed camping, hiking , and other outdoor activities with his wife and two sons. Jim was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years. He was also active in his church and was a member of SCORE. After retiring from work, he enjoyed his daily walks in Lakewood with his wife and dog Buff. He walked over 17, 000 miles as of 2002. In recent years he and his wife, Dorothy, had 12 young foreign exchange students live in their home. Jim enjoyed working with young people. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, sons Rand (Gina) of Allyn and Michael (Melanie) of New Orleans, and grandson Miles of Seattle.Remembrances may be made to the memorial fund of St. MaryÂ's Episcopal Church, Lakewood.A memorial Eucharist will be held at 3:30 PM, Thursday, Sept 15, 2005 at St. MaryÂ's Episcopal Church, 10630 Gravelly Lake Dr. SW, Lakewood.
