George Olsen's Obituary
George J. Olsen, well loved father and grandfather, 89, passed peacefully into the arms of Our Lord on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Born on August 3, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the sixth of seven children. George came to the Pacific Northwest to serve his country and was stationed at Ft. Lewis where he completed two tours of duty. While at Fort Lewis, he met and married the love of his life, Olga on May 13, 1949 and made their home in Tacoma, WA. George dedicated more than 50 years of his life to the local hotel industry, most recently at the Seattle Hilton until he retired last year. Through his years, he touched countless lives in innumerable ways. His dedicated work ethic and sense of fairness was a shining example to all. He is most known for his clear blue eyes, sense of humor, gentle, caring heart, his service to others and his great love for his family. He counted his 8 grandchildren as his best life accomplishments. His infinite love for animals was legendary and those around him know it was rare to see him with an empty lap. George was preceded in death by his wife Olga, son Leif, and is survived by his daughter Gretchen Olsen-Jacobsen and her husband Jake in addition to eight grandchildren. May he rest in peace as his spirit lives on through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, March 27 at 1:00pm in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial park, Lakewood, WA. ( www.mountainviewtacoma.com ). A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the ASPCA in his name.
