GEORGE E MURPHY September 29, 1926 July 20, 2017 George was born to John and Rachel (Larsen) Murphy in Tacoma, Washington. George grew up in Gig Harbor and attended Midway School and graduated from Gig Harbor High School class of 1944. George met the love of his life while stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. George and Estella Mae (Erdman) were married October 4, 1947 in New Albany, Indiana. George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rachel, and his wife of 67 years, Estella Mae. He is survived by his children, Carolyn Correll, George Charles and Patrick Brien all of Tacoma, Barbara Murphy-Wheelhouse (Allen) of the home in Yelm, and Robert John (Dolores) of Elma. 8 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. After High School George worked at the Bremerton Shipyard until joining the Army in 1946. He served in Korea, and Japan and many stations in the States. He retired in 1968 and returned home to Tacoma, where he went to work for the US Postal Service George loved his family, fishing, gardening and his God. George was truly a good Christian man, who never spoke a bad word about or against any person. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Tacoma, and the Yelm United Methodist Church in Yelm. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Kentucky and The Order of the Eastern Star in Tacoma. He worked with his granddaughters in Rainbow Girls and his Grandson in Demolay. Services will be held at Mountain View Visitation 7/25 at 1:00pm – 8:00pm, Funeral Service 7/26 at 11:00am. George will be laid to rest at the Tahoma National Cemetery Tuesday 08/01 at 1:00pm. Rest in Peace you have earned it.
