George Morris 1929-2017
Our Loving Husband, Father, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa has died at his home in Lakewood March 16, 2017.
George was born in Newport, Rhode Island October 17, 1929, the son of Manuel and Mary (Ferreira) Morris. He was the 6th of 11 children. He joined the Navy at the age of 19 and served aboard the USS WATTS, USS YARNELL. He was stationed in Japan and France, later changing to the Air Force in 1957, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic until his retirement in 1968.
He married Marie Irene Eugenie Gottschling in Phalsbourg France on December 1, 1959. From this union, they had one son Frank Allan Morris.
Upon retiring from the military, the couple chose to remain in Washington. George found employment as a craftsman at Coast Craft Architectural Wood Working where he later retired. He loved working in his garden and creating a beautiful sanctuary for the enjoyment of those who passed by. As a member of the Dahlia Society, he introduced two new varieties of Dahlia; the Mary Morris and Sir Rom. He loved people and never met a stranger. He was very fond of the Asian culture and did many gardens incorporating Asian themes. He was an active member of the KOA Senior Center, and Tillicum Senior Center where he met his second wife and companion Miyako. They were married June 29, 2010 in Tacoma. He always thought of others and found thoughtful treasures to give. He would bring beautiful bouquets of flowers monthly to the Senior Centers to celebrate those having birthdays. Caregiver by nature, he cared for his family and friends.
George is survived by his second wife; Miyako Kishinoue, his younger sister, Eleanor Grimes, his son, Frank (Jeanette), 4 grandchildren; Jay Allan (Erin), Bradley Keith (Jenna), Christopher Brian (Danelle) and Chelsey Lynn Yearsley (Ryan). He was also blessed with seven great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his wife Irene, brothers; Frank, Edward, Thomas, James, William, Robert and Michael, sisters; Madeline and Anna.
