George L. Draper, Sr., 87, of Wolf Point, formerly of Lakewood, Washington, diedMarch 5, 2007, in Wolf Point, Montana, where he had been living sinceNovember 2006.The oldest of three children, George L. Draper, Sr. was born on October 1, 1919,in Los Angeles, California, the son of George and Nina Draper. He lived in LosAngeles until leaving school to join the CCC Corps and then the Army in 1936.He served in the mounted cavalry in Monterey, California, and military policebefore attending Officer Candidate School in 1940. After receiving hiscommission he served as a member of the signal corps in the European Theater,Panama Canal Zone, Korea, Japan, and Fort Lewis/Camp Murray, Washington,where he retired from active duty in 1958. Following his military service, Georgewas a letter carrier for the Postal Service, finally retiring in 1986. Georgeremained in Lakewood until November of 2006.George married Nina Nelander in Riverside, California in 1943, and was thefather of two children, George, and Nancy.In 1980 he married Odette McGhee, who preceded him in death in 1996.Prior to his retirement, George was active in the Masons, and was Past WorthyPatron of Acacia Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Steilacoom, Washington. Hehad also been a member of the Elks Lodge in Lakewood. During his retirementyears George enjoyed traveling to visit family, and gardening. He was a memberof Trinity Lutheran Church, in Wolf Point, Montana, at the time of his death.George is survived by his son, the Rev. George (Gerry) Draper, of Wolf Point, anddaughter Nancy Galentine of Eldred, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by hissister, Jean Enochs, of Sun City, Arizona; and brother, William, of San Jose,California, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m., at Trinity LutheranChurch in Wolf Point, the Rev. Arlo Pullmann and the Rev. James Hagemanofficiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood, Washington.Clayton Stevenson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements in Montana.Interment is Monday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m. in Mountain View Memorial Park.Mountain View Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements in Tacoma,Washington. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to TrinityLutheran Church.
