He then served on the USS Chicago (CG-11) from August /1969 to July/1970 and then was honorably discharged.
George retired from the Washington State DOT NW Region 41 as a Transportation Engineer II. His previous employment included time with Beneficial Finance, Green Tree and Sea First Bank.
George was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Lola Doussett and brother-in-law James Woodie. George is survived by his loving wife Deborah and his caring children daughter Jill Willis, son Logan Doussett, son-in-law James Willis and daughter-in-law Carrie Doussett. Beloved grandfather of his two precious grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Jean Woodie, Brother Rayburn and sister-in-law Anita all of Oklahoma.
George was born on a small dairy farm in Noble Oklahoma. He was raised during the hardships in the aftermath of the Dust Bowl and generally poor economics. The family briefly moved to California however decided to return to their home in Noble Oklahoma. The families in the area all shared what they had and truly depended on each other just to survive. This developed the area into a very close nit and loving community. George has since carried this appreciation for whatever talent everyone else has. He was always doing great and encouraging everyone else to feel the same.
The first part of his education was in a one room classroom with all grades present, with one teacher that taught all grades. His mother Lola was the school cook and his father Raymond was on the school board. When he could, George would ride his horse to school. Later, this one room school house would close and the neighborhood children went to Noble to finish their education.
The family dairy was a lot of work for each member starting at dawn everyone was up milking the cows. His sister stayed in the kitchen and cooked everyone a large breakfast of gravy and biscuits, all on a wood stove. During the hot summers George would talk about the swimming hole the kids enjoyed. It was a mere hole in the creek however it worked. The family grew a large garden and shared the produce like everyone else did.
George has enjoyed the friendships formed at his church, Freedom River Outreach in Tacoma. He had planned to be able to enjoy much more there, but his time was cut short.
George was a member of the Pacific Northwest Four Wheel Drive Association and an honorable member of The Hombres Jeep Club. He was also a member of the Tacoma Sportsman Club and truly loved his boat and fishing trips. He loved to ride his horse and once he even went hunting on his horse.
His family and friends will miss him very much and are determined to carry on his legacy.
