George Campbell's Obituary
March 21, 1928 – September 18, 2018. George Wayne Campbell was called back home. George grew up on Port Orchard, Washington and graduated from South Kitsap High School. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Barbara Billings. They remained married for 58 years until Barbara’s passing in 2006. Not long after high school graduation, George enlisted in the United States Army where he met every challenge and rose through the ranks of Private to Lt. Colonel over a 22-year career which took him throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Among the many accomplishments during his military career, George served as a member of the Color Guard for President Harry Truman, a Medic in Vietnam, and closed out his military career as the Inspector General for the United States Army Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany. George was also a member of the 82nd and 101st Airborne. George always said that the first plane he ever got in, he jumped out of. George loved the outdoors and throughout his life enjoyed hunting, and fishing. George also enjoyed sports and continued to play basketball well into his seventies. Although George was tough and resolute individual for much of his life, he was also dedicated to his family. Compassionate and generous. George leaves his only son Daniel Campbell, daughter–in-law Laurie Campbell, grandchildren Jacquelyn Campbell and Jacob Campbell, and numerous friends. George said not to be sad or grieve for him. He said that he had a long life, accomplished every goal that he set for himself, and considered himself to be a very lucky man. The family wishes to thank the compassionate, caring staff at St. Anthony Hospital and Heron’s Key in Gig Harbor. Honoring George’s wishes, and the immediate family, there will be no public service. A private military honors gravesite burial will be attended by immediate family members only at Tahoma national Cemetery. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
