George A Burleigh's Obituary
George A. Burleigh
6/24/1949 – 11/27/2013
George was born in Tacoma, Washington on June 24, 1949 and went to Heaven on November 27, 2013. His parents, Clarence and Alma had six children, five boys and one girl.
As a family, the children grew up in Tacoma, Washington. George attended Mt. Tahoma High School and graduated in 1967, a great year for automobiles and a reflection of one of his many passions. George honorably served two tours in the Naval Reserves during the Vietnam War, where he met and married his first wife and had two children (John and Karen). After returning home from active service, he settled back into civilian life and had two more children (Jeff and Michelle).
George worked as an Automotive Mechanic for Tacoma Dodge and took courses at TCC in preparation for his next career as a Machinist for Tacoma Boat. Tacoma Boat closed and George pursued a career as a Nuclear Machinist for The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. In his 24 year career with Bremerton, George was employed in several capacities and received numerous awards and recommendations for his hard work and outstanding service. His retirement was well deserved and reflects the amazing service he continued throughout his life.
George’s hobbies and interests included fishing, crabbing, clamming, squid jigging, camping, RVing, classic cars, prospecting, hunting for antiques, fixing anything mechanical, and connecting with his service brothers at the VA.
George loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Additionally, he enjoyed every opportunity he had to visit and connect with his brothers and sisters. George was baptized Lutheran and attended Christ Lutheran Church in Tacoma.
George is survived by his four children, son John (Stephanie), daughter Karen (John), son Jeff, and daughter Michelle (Ryan). His eight grandchildren Lindy and Ava (John and Stephanie), Alexis, Andrew, and Sophia (Karen and John), Austyn, Brayden, and Kayla (Michelle and Ryan), and by his brothers (Tom, Mike, Steve, Larry), sister (Pat), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
