George Arthur Howell's Obituary
George Arthur Howell passed peacefully away from his Mother's loving arms and onto his beloved daughter Alisa's helicopter to fly into eternal skies on July 29, 2010. He was fifty-eight years old. George graduated fom Lakes High School and played cello in the Tacoma Junior Symphony. Afterwards George served in the U.S. Army behind the Iron Curtain in Berlin, Germany. Upon discharge he worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and in the grocery business in the Gig harbor and Tacoma area. George was an avid sailor and owned the twenty-eight foot sloop Wind Dancer. If not on his boat, George could be found snow-skiing or hiking in the Cascades, Olympics, or exploring the ocean beaches in his free time. George was a voracious reader and acomplished poet. He followed the Buddhist faith and was a member of the Soka Gakai International since he was a teenager.
George's free spirit will be missed by his mother Yuko Howell; brothers Art, Ric and Doug; sisters Patty Tester, Alice Galford and Vickie Bevis. He will also be missed by Joan Lyons, the mother of his precious daughter Alisa. George is also survived by three nephews and seven nieces.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Rodney and Robin of the Highlands, Brandi of Park Rose, and Timi of Allenmore Hospital. The family also wishes the thank Dr. Mike Lyons for his graciousness and understanding. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the National MS Society. Celebration of Life ceremonies will begin at the Valley Chapel, Mountain View Funeral Home, at 1:30PM Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010. Reception will be held afterwards at the Celebation of Life Hall, also at Mountain View.
