George Alan Lagerquist's Obituary
On Monday, October 20, 2003, businessman and philanthropist George A. Lagerquist passed away at the age of 90. LagerquistÂ's legacy extends throughout the lumber industries of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska as an entrepreneur, investor, and contributor. His entry into the lumber business of Alaska in the 1940Â's spawned a successful presence in that industry, which greatly contributed to the birth and development of many of the local lumber entities we recognize today.Mr. LagerquistÂ's social contributions set a fine example of generosity and community. As a Trustee, Colleague, and major benefactor to Pacific Lutheran University, his contributions led to the building of a concert hall bearing his name, a commissioned Chihuly glass sculpture, and numerous scholarships and arts endowments. Lagerquist was also a major contributor to St. JosephÂ's Hospital in Tacoma, having served in numerous capacities and providing funds for the building of the Lagerquist Education Center.A Christian, Mr. Lagerquist was a benefactor to San Anselmo Theological Seminary, and several area churches and Christian organizations.George Lagerquist was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret in 1988. He is survived by his devoted spouse and companion of 12 years, Mary Lagerquist; son, Lee Lagerquist (Linda) of Gig Harbor; daughter, Bette Cram (Marlin) of Gig Harbor; and sonJon Lagerquist (Jennifer) of Tacoma. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many friends.The family wishes to thank Chris Thompson, Gail, Tiffany and his wonderful staff at Family First Adult Home for all their loving care of our Dad and Papo.Please join the family in a memorial service to be held in the Lagerquist Concert Hall at Pacific Lutheran University on November 3, 2003 at 4 P.M. to celebrate his life surrounded by the music he so dearly loved.
