Gene LeVell Bowens' Obituary
Gene LeVell Bowens, our beloved son, brother, nephew and uncle departed this life on February 13, 2018 and is now in the presence of our Heavenly father.
Gene was born in Racine, WI on March 2, 1965 to James E. Bowens, Sr and Doris D. Bowens. Gene was raised in a close-knit Christian home. He was part of the gospel group The Inspirations led by his father. The group sang at various churches in Mississippi.
Gene grew up in Racine and attended Racine schools until he moved away with his family to Spokane, Washington in the summer of 1980.
In Spokane, WA, Gene attended Bryant School where he was a good athlete, winning numerous medals and awards in his participation with the Special Olympics. After graduating high school; Gene worked approximately 20 years at the Mustard Seed Restaurant. While living in Spokane, Gene pretty much knew everyone and everyone spoke highly of him. He was known as a gentle soul who had no problem talking to strangers. He was loved and adored.
Gene was an avid Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved letting us from the Pacific Northwest know when the Seahawks lost.
Gene is survived by his parents: James E. Bowens, Sr (Hempstead, TX); Doris Bowens (Racine, WI). Nine brothers and sisters: Zannetta Bowens (Racine, WI); Teresa Mitchel, (Racine, WI); James Bowens (Spokane, WA); Charlotte Jones (Tacoma, WA); Dwana Carson (Racine, WI); Lee Bowens (Spokane, WA); Wayne Bowens, (Racine WI); Phillip Bowens (Racine, WI) and Bryce Bowens (Racine, WI)l and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Gene also leaves to mourn a special friend Serena Johnson of Tacoma, WA whom he met and started dating shortly after moving to Tacoma, WA two years ago.
