I first met Helga and Gary Thomas at their winter home in Palm Desert, California. From the moment they arrived, it was clear they would bring warmth and spirit to our small tennis community.
Gary was a wonderful tennis player who welcomed everyone to the court, no matter their skill level. When I was just beginning to play, he patiently shared his knowledge and helped me discover a true love for the game.
His deep baritone voice and hearty laugh could fill a room, and we often called upon him to make announcements at community events—always delivered with good humor and charm. Gary was the kind of person who offered help freely, often before anyone thought to ask.
His friendship, kindness, and laughter will be deeply missed, but his generous spirit will continue to echo through our community and in the hearts of those who knew him.
