Gary Wayne Hochstrasser's Obituary
Gary Wayne Hochstrasser, 77, passed away on November 8, 2022 in Tacoma, Washington. A native of Tacoma, Gary attended Stadium High School (‘63). After graduating from the University of Washington (‘68), he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Berlin, Germany. While living in Salt Lake City, Utah, Gary met and married the beautiful April Kay. They moved back to Washington to raise their five children and have resided in University Place for the past 44 years. Gary and April celebrated their 47th anniversary this past June.
Gary spent over 40 years working as an architect and then as a bus driver for UPSD while serving faithfully in many capacities in his church.His family will miss his great sense of humor, his handsome baritone singing voice, his frequent motorcycle rides, and his regular FaceTime calls.
Gary is survived by his wife, April Kay Hochstrasser, his children Mikaela (Christian) Griggs, Jason (Katie) Hochstrasser, Ryan (Karin) Hochstrasser, Angela Gomillion, and Jordan (Christina) Hochstrasser; his brother Jeff (Debbi) Hochstrasser, eighteen grandchildren, and numerous beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents L. Russell and Leone Sweet Hochstrasser as well as his brother David Hochstasser.
A memorial will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, November 14, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (4219 Beckonridge Dr W, University Place, WA). A private interment will take place earlier. Services provided by Mountain View Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
