G. Naomi Martin, 83, of Tacoma, Washington, formerly of Center Cross, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on June 26, 2024. She was known for her warm hugs, passion for music, and unwavering faith.
Life and Legacy: Naomi was born on June 25, 1941, in Center Cross, Virginia, to James Edward and Ida Mae (Gresham) Ruffin. She graduated as the Salutatorian from Essex High School in 1960. Naomi was a talented seamstress, creating beautiful garments with love. Her melodious voice graced the choir at Macedonia Baptist Church, where she was an active member. She touched the lives of many as a familiar face to Pierce Transit bus drivers.
Naomi dedicated her career to serving others. She retired from a federal government job in the Radiology Department at Madigan Army Medical Center. As “Operator 8” at Fort Lewis, she connected countless calls with her warm voice. Naomi’s spiritual strength made her a fierce prayer warrior, and her kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Family and Friends: Naomi is survived by her loving spouse, Omar L. Martin, and their children: Cephas (Jeanine)Martin, Shirley (Expedito) Bayon, and David Martin. Her five granddaughters—Regina Francesca, Josefa Naomi, Stephanie AnnMarie, Michelle Naomi, Olivia Ethel—and grandson Jeffery Omar Yacin, along with her four greatgrandchildren Frances Cherise, Peyton Marie, Aubrey Grace, and Caleb Elijah will cherish her memory. Her sister, Mary Conyers of Willingboro, NJ, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews also mourn her passing.
In heaven, Naomi rejoins her parents, six brothers, and five sisters. Her smile and generosity will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her.
