Fujiko Gratchner's Obituary
Fujiko Gratchner was born on December 8, 1928 to Ine and Masakichi Fujinawa in Tokyo, Japan. She met Joseph R. Gratchner III while he was in the Navy stationed at Yokosuka. They married on November 16, 1956. Their first child, Dorothy, was born in Sasebo, Japan. The young couple returned stateside, where Joseph exited the Navy and joined the Army. The family settled in Ft. Huachuca, AZ, and their family unit grew with the birth of three more children: Joey, Nancy, and Frances. After spending almost 20 years at Ft. Huachuca, Joseph received orders to Okinawa, Japan and the family relocated. Fujiko was so excited to be in Japan again after so many years away. The family resided there from December 1977 until May 1982. In May 1982, the family relocated to Tacoma, WA.
Fujiko was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, and Ba-chan (grandmother). She was a pillar of strength for the entire family. She loved being with her grandchildren and laughing, listening to music, singing Japanese karaoke, Japanese dance, crocheting, and cooking. Fujiko was predeceased by her son, Joey (2011), and is survived by her husband, Joseph, daughters, Dorothy, Nancy (Randy), and Frances, and five grandchildren: Robert, Jr., BrandonLee, Emi, Duncan, and Jack.
Mom spent her last week in a loving, caring home called Grateful Hearts. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation go to Marissa (RN, provider) and Lito (provider), as well as Pauline and Beth (caregivers). They comforted Mom and treated her with dignity and respect.
