Fredrick William Barber's Obituary
Fred W. BarberFred W. Barber, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend peacefully passed away on May 18, 2003 at his home in Lakewood, Washington. Born in 1906 in Stephenson, Minnesota, Fred moved with his family to the Iron Range in Minnesota. He worked as a Mining Engineer through the beginning of World War II; with a wife and four children, he was exempt from military service. To support his country, he elected to move West, working through the end of the war at the United States shipyards in Bremerton, Washington. In 1946 he began a long career as Chief Maintenance Supervisor at Western State Hospital, Steilacoom, Washington, where he worked until his retirement at 62 years of age. Fred was an ardent sportsman, fishing and hunting in many locales in the United States. His gardening was the talk of the town and for years his neighbors benefited from his green thumb. He is survived by one son, William F. Barber of Big Canoe, Georgia; two daughters, Jeanne Russell of Seattle, Washington, Betty Lou Birkett of Bremerton, Washington; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and loved forever.Private services are planned with internment at Mountain View Memorial Park.
