Fredrick Clarence Chafe's Obituary
Fred was born November 2, 1916 in Vancouver B.C. Canada to Harold and Bertha Chafe. He passed away at his home in Parkland on April 7, 2003.The family moved to Tacoma in 1921 and in 1936 Fred graduated from Lincoln High. He married June Sand in 1940, a union that ended in 1998 with JuneÂ's death.A licensed optician since 1939 he first worked for Riggs Optical in Olympia. Returning to the Tacoma area in 1948 he took a job with Wahlers Optical and began building his home in Parkland. He and June founded the original Allenmore Optical (now) Northwest Optical) in 1966 and retired in 1978. After retirement Fred and June traveled extensively, spent many enjoyable hours with family and friends at their beach home on Henderson Bay and lead an active life pursuing a variety of interests, one of which was the restoration of 1950Â's vintage Buicks.Fred was a member of the Tualatin Elks Lodge #2780 and the Washington State Association of Dispensing Opticians.He is survived by sons, Dennis (Darlene), James (Barbara), Jon; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; former wife Florence Chafe and a large extended family.The family wishes to thank everyone at Franciscan Hospice for the care and comfort given to Fred in his final days.Memorial gifts may be made to Franciscan Hospice or a charity of your choice.Viewing will be Thursday, April 10th from 11am to 7pm at Mountain View Funeral Home.Funeral Services will be at 12pm, Friday April 11, 2003 in the Mt. View Valley Chapel with a reception to follow at 12:30pm in the Celebration of Life Center at Mountain View Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
