I have the fondest of memories of Mr. Shanaman's collection of music boxes and his gift of a music box to me in what I think was December of 1982. He was a kind and happy man and I was glad to know him. I remember feeling a warm welcome from him and sharing movies with he and his wife and Rick What fun it was to do hang out together in the family room of your Lakewood home. Jane,
Fred was a wonderful human being and I know you and your children will miss him dearly. I enjoyed getting to know him through our trip to Palm Desert. He was so warm with the guests and I know now that is just how he was in life. What a wonderful memorial service.

Dearest Jane,
I know where you are. I lost the love of my life 17 years ago. Fred Touched my life when we shared positions on the Tacoma Council for the Arts. Indeed, he was the warmest, kindness and loving persons I have ever met. He shared with me your meeting and the love he had for you. Of course I knew who you were and we shared a few moments on an interview for the Children's Therapy Unit in Puyallup which I co-chaired with Don Mott. You are a strong person but I know days will be difficult. Take care of yourself my friend! Fred will be with you forever.

Dear Jane,
Joe and I want to express our sorrow in hearing of the death of Fred. We will never forget the wonderful day we shared with you two, now over 3 years ago. Your hospitality and warmness, delightful meal and conversation, especially about the Shanaman lineage, made for a very nice part of our 3 month trip around the US.
We were so glad to have met you and Fred. His aunt Kathryn loved him so much. She was always telling me about his salmon fishing at Savary Island.
I am sorry we can't be there to join in the celebration of his life, but you are in our thoughts.
Please keep in touch. I miss his emails of funnies and political items!
