Fred Sampson Jr.
Fred Sampson, Jr. Of Tacoma, Washington, passed away at age 85 on Friday, April 29, 2011. Born in Edina, Minnesota on September 10, 1925 into a large family, he was preceded in death by brothers Ralph, Buster, and Donald, and sisters Evelyn, Margaret, Muriel, and Dorothy. During World War II Fred went to work at Fort Lewis Army Base in Washington State, where he lived for the rest of his life. Although he was far from family, he generously remembered each household with Harry and David gift packages of fruit at Christmas time each year, and in summer Fred would visit Minnesota. Fred played golf regularly. After retiring from the base he traveled the country in his Winnebago, following the Pro Golf Tours and attending the Rose Bowl in Pasadena every year. He also loved to drop in unannounced to surprise friends and family all over the country. Survived by brother Richard Sampson and cousin Lorraine Nelson, both of Minneapolis, and sister-in-law Janeen Sampson of Madison, Wisconsin, as well as many nieces and nephews and their children in Colorado, Georgia, Minnesota, Montana, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Service at St. John's Lutheran Church at 49th and Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday, May 9th, 2011 at 11:00 am. Final resting place is Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
