Fred Kercher was my Dad for over 35 years. I loved him as a son loves his father. Many wounderful and endearing thoughts and feelings have been expressed about Fred, his gentleness, his loving spirit.
Fred was a man of the greatest generation. I do not know if the young people today understand the true meaning of sacrifice, courage, bravery, patriotism, and strength that Fred had. Fred fought in numerous combat campains in the Pacific theater. He was a hero of the war and to his family at home.
Fred inspired me from the very first time I met him. He was a tall,
thin man with an inner elegance but yet humble. He was born of poverty in 1913 and worked hard his entire life to better himself and his family. He could work longer an harder than most and could fix or build anything. He was a wizard with his hands. He loved cars, especially FORDS, and was an excellant mechanic.
Fred loved his family more than he ever said, it showed in his loving caring spirit. His devovtion to his loving wife Betty, who preceeded him in death, was unsurpassed. She was his true love.
I cry now for myself and the loss ,of never being able to see him or listen to his wounderful stories and tales of a life very well lived, very full of love and giving. Not just the greastest generation but the greatest man I have known in my life. I could go on for hours and days about Fred and his life, but I 've said enough, probably too much. I feel that to much is not enough.
I love you Dad and Mom
Peace and Love
