Frank F. Smith's Obituary
Frank F. Smith was born October 4, 1946, to Frank L. and Florence Smith in Tacoma, Washington. He was the fifth of six children and was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Jimmy, Wesley, and Ronnie; his sister Nancy (Allison); and his beloved wife of 56 years, Carol (Ruvo). He is survived by his sister Annie, son Loren, daughter Christina, and granddaughter Jessica.
Frank was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Locals 302 and 612, working as a Teamster for his entire career. He spent many years at Canyon Sand and Gravel, which later became Miles Sand and Gravel, where he excelled as a machine operator and heavy-duty mechanic before retiring in 2011. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Frank was a gifted plumber, electrician, and all-around handyman. Known as a jack of all trades, he was also a skilled motorcycle, auto, and marine mechanic. If something was broken, Frank could fix it—and if Frank fixed it, it was fixed for good.
One of Frank’s greatest joys in life was spending time with his granddaughter. He loved taking her on adventures, exploring nearby parks, and enjoying local food festivals. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a cherished grandfather. Frank's kindness, wisdom, and resourcefulness touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed.
Frank passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on January 4, 2025. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m., January 15, 2025, in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View, 4100 Steilacoom Boulevard SW, Lakewood, Washington. A graveside service and reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Frank’s memory to the National Aphasia Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
