Frank I. Liles, son of James and Vesta Liles of Kelso WA was born Nov 13, 1924, and passed on Oct 24, 2011. He graduated from Kelso HS and joined the Navy where he served proudly as naval petty officer. Enjoying people, he knew sales was his gift. He completed his bachelors at Puget Sound College (UPS) and worked 39 years in the insurance industry before retiring from Allstate.
He was the past Commodore and member of the Fairliner Yacht Club, an active member of the Day Island Yacht Club and a member of the Tacoma Elks. He traveled with his family and fished the inland waters of Puget Sound and the inside passage to SE Alaska on his many boats all named KOKOPO. Later he traveled the US and the world by land, sea and air, experiencing many and varied cultures.
Frank was recruited by Seafair to organize and lead the South Sound Seafair Special Peoples Cruise in 1982. The cruise provided people of all ages with special needs the opportunity to participate in a lighted Christmas boat parade in Gig Harbor. This special cruise brought joy and happiness to the many participants and volunteers. He reluctantly passed the helm to the local sponsoring yacht clubs in 2006. Frank volunteered for many local charitable events including the Tacoma Daffodil Parade and Toys-For-Tots.
He was a jack of all trades and never afraid of a challenge, from building a tree house to designing and building his own boat house, he accomplished all tasks with style and grace.
A loving husband, father and good friend to many, he was proceeded in death By his wife of 28 years, Louise D. Liles and survived by his three children Shaune (George), Dena (Dick), Devon (Janet), Grand Children, Great Grand Children and Evaden -Å"Toots-, his loving companion of 27 years.
A military interment service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., at Calvary Cemetery, 5212 70th Street West, Tacoma, Washington 98467.
