Frank E. Osborne's Obituary
Frank E. Osborne Â"SpecÂ" passed away Nov. 20, 2002 of natural causes. He was born in Springfield, MO, Sept. 21, 1907 to Hiram P. and Lottie B. Osborne. He was raised in Elk, Washington near Spokane where his father was with the Edwards and Bradford Lumber Company. An avid sports fan he excelled as the Elk High School quarterback leading the 14 member football team to the 1925 Â"Mythical Cup State ChampionshipÂ" in Pullman, Washington. Elk beat Yakima High School 6-0 with an opening kick-off runback by Â"SpecÂ" in a blinding snow storm. No other points were scored. In a Â"roughboyÂ" trial that followed, the judge ruled in favor of Elk and the little 50 person High School is considered the 1925 State Championship to this day.He graduated from Eastern Washington College and worked his way up to Vice President of First National Bank in Spokane. In 1932 he married his wife of 55 years Dorine MacAulay. He later joined the Utter Motor Company in Spokane becoming General Manager before moving to Tacoma in 1958 to become the owner and president of Osborne-McCann Pontiac-Cadillac Company. He retired in 1978. He was proud of his years with General Motors, serving a term on the Corporate Advisory Board in Detroit. He was president of the Tacoma Automobile Dealers Association and vice-president of the Tacoma Industrial Board. He served many years on the Board of Directors of Puget Sound National Bank until 1993 when it was absorbed by Key Corp. He was an avid baseball fan and attended regularly at Cheney Stadium. He was a life-long member of the University of Washington Tyee Club. Other affiliations included Spokane Country Club, Spokane Club, Spokane Junior Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Library Board, United Good Neighbors (now United Way), the Boy Scouts of America, the Tacoma Club, and The Tacoma Country and Golf Club. He was proud to be a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons and Afifi Shrine of Tacoma and Spokane.In Palm Springs, California where he and Dorine spent winters for over 40 years he was a member of the Committee of Twenty-five Club and a trustee of OÂ'Donnell Golf Club. Until the time of his passing, he and Bob Hope were the two oldest living trustees of that Club.He is survived by his two daughters Kaye Allen (Harold) and Judy Longstreth (Rich) of Tacoma, five grandchildren Mike, Matt (Tina) and Chris (Anne) Highsmith, Amy (Seth) Patton and Bres (Kristi) Longstreth. There are eight great grandchildren Sarah, Megan, Kristine, Shelley, Kyle, Sam and Joe Highsmith and Brennan Longstreth. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorine in 1988, brothers Bob and W.I. Â"TonyÂ" and sister Wilma Sudhoff.Mr. Osborne had resided at Franke Tobey Jones Home since 1989. The family thanks: the staff for the loving care he received there over the years; his many friends; and the professional and caring private nurses from the Gentiva Health Services specifically Joe, Hope, Kelsie and Debbie.Remembrances may be made to the Tobey Jones Health Care Center. A Â"Celebration of his LifeÂ" will be held at Franke Tobey Jones (upper building) 2:00pm Monday November 25, 2002, 5340 N. Bristol Tacoma, WA 98407. Burial will be in the family plot at Riverside Memorial Park in Spokane.
