Fred was a WWII Veteran with over 20 years of military and civil service, a recipient of the Bronze Star and numerous other ribbons and medals. Fred was born in Washington D.C. where he met Sadie J. Saia. They were married at McChord Field in 1942. They had three children; Francis J. Pettey, Joanna M. Dennis and Michael A Pettey. Sadie passed away in 1980. Fred moved to Apache Junction, Arizona in 1985 where he met and shared his life with Maldetta Hoffman (Mel), a widow, until she passed away in 2013. In 2015, Fred moved to WA State to live with his son Francis, where he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Fathers Day. Fred enjoyed life and loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the sunshine. A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 3 at 1:30 PM at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood.
