Frances Emfred Brown's Obituary
FRANCES EMFRED (RADFORD) BROWN Tacoma, Washington. Passed away June 27, 2005 at the age of 90. Frances was born on February 4, 1915 in Astoria, Oregon to Frederick William Radford and Emma Frances (Smith) Radford. The family moved to Long Beach, Washington where Frances was raised and schooled. She was married to Wayne Gordon Brown in Long Beach, WA on November 15, 1941. Due to the onset of WWII, Wayne soon enlisted in the US Army and served honorably for 35 years, with Frances moving world wide as an Army Wife. Frances and Wayne had one son, Wayne Gordon Brown II, who served in the United States Air Force, being killed in action July 17, 1972, while flying as Weapons Systems Officer on a classified mission. Major Brown was declared as Missing in Action for many years. As life would have it, FrancesÂ' only grandchild, Kerry (Brown) Sully was born just 6 months before the death of her father. Frances adored her granddaughter and the two bonded in their common loss. Frances became a very active member of MIA-POW activities both nationally and locally, serving for several years as Chaplain of the local organization. In recent years, Frances served the Air Force Community as a Red Cross volunteer and as a volunteer witness for the McChord Air Force Base Judge Advocate Office, receiving several Volunteer Appreciation Awards. Frances is to be admired for serving her country and her family so well as a career Army Wife, career Air Force Gold Star Mother and Career Service Support Volunteer. Frances was preceded in death by her husband SFC Wayne Gordon Brown in 1989 and her son Major Wayne Gordon Brown II in 1972. She is survived by her granddaughter Kerry (Brown) Sully and two great-grandchildren, Aaron Sully and Ariel Sully, all of Baton Rouge, LA.A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 1, 2005, in the Mountain View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Tacoma, WA 98499
