Floyd Ernest Exeter
December 17, 1923 to October 30, 2022
Floyd was born December 17, 1923 in Pocatello, ID, the son of Ernest Ioan and Myrtle Ivene Exeter.
He was a dedicated and loving husband and father. He married Barbara Ann Priest on May 14, 1948. Together with their children in 1961 they moved from Pocatello to Tacoma, WA. He left his Pocatello High School teaching job of 12 years to be employed as an Army Education Officer in Federal service.
Floyd devoted his life in caring and providing for his family. He built at least three of the homes his family lived in and served in several different positions in his church. He loved carpentry, landscaping, gardening, learning, cooking, and singing around the house – especially when making his buttermilk pancakes topped with strawberries and sour cream which he was famous for.
He served in the Army during WWII in France in the 63rd Infantry Division. In 2014, Floyd was Knighted by France with the Chevalier Legion of Honour, the highest French decoration awarded for extreme bravery.
He is survived by his children, Sharon Cloward of Evans, GA; Karel Wake of San Antonio, TX; Karen LeBaron of Orem, UT; Kim Exeter of Springfield, VA; Susan Exeter of Colorado Springs, CO; and 12 grandchildren and their families. He was proceeded in death by his wife Barbara Ann; his son Douglas Exeter; by his parents; his one sister Elma Shelley; and two brothers, Dwaine Exeter and George Exeter.
The wonderful and heavenly Floyd Exeter will be laid to rest at the cemetery located at Mountain View Funeral Home; 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA. On November 17, there will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during which the family will be present to receive relatives and friends from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Chapel services will be conducted on November 18 at 11:00 a.m. followed by the dedication of the grave and burial at the gravesite.
