Florence Lipp's Obituary
Florence E. Lipp
May 28th, 1922 - June 4th, 2012
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Florence Emily Lipp, our family matriarch, who was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Florence was born in Joplin, MO in 1922 and ultimately settled in Tacoma, WA in 1956. She was the seventh of eight children born to Pearl and Richard Berry and grew up on a farm with her five brothers and two sisters.
Florence married the love of her life, Odell A. Lipp on January 5th, 1943 and traveled and lived in several locales during his service in WWII. They moved back to Missouri after Odell's military service in order to farm and start a family until eventually moving out west with three small children in tow.
Odell and Florence had the opportunity during their retirement years to travel to Hawaii and Australia and enjoyed belonging to a local RV travel club. They ultimately celebrated 60 years of marriage until Odell's passing in 2003.
Florence loved to keep farm animals and pets of every kind and was especially fond of the many dogs and hens she had over the years. She was an amazing gardener, seamstress and prolific cook. In fact, she organized and cooked large dinners for family and friends right up until her late 80's. Taking care of and spending time with her family was her number one priority.
Florence was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and maintained a membership with that organization for 25 years.
She is survived by her younger sister Francis Hoppel of Missouri, her children Ron Lipp, Caroline Sprinkle and Jerry Lipp (Martha) of Washington, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Odell in 2003 and grandson Terry Wells in 1990.
Florence possessed great emotional strength and resiliency and our family will keep her memory alive in our hearts always. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Mountain View Cemetery in Tacoma.
