Florence Juanita Simpson's Obituary
Florence J. Simpson (Southgate) Florence Juanita Simpson, 87, went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 18, 2008. She had been in failing health for several years. She was born in McCleary, WA to Edward and Minnie Southgate on 2/2/1921. She grew up in McCleary and later moved to Tacoma, where she married Harry Simpson on June 19, 1948 and remained in Tacoma the rest of her life. They had been married for 44 years before his death in 1993. Florence had been a beautician before her marriage to Harry. She and Harry were faithful members at Mt. Tahoma Baptist Church for many years, until his illness prevented their attendance. Florence was always a very faithful, loyal wife and mother, and was known as an excellent cook and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, brother Dale Southgate, and sister Helen McTighe. She is survived by son Barry W. Simpson, sister Pauline Curran of McCleary, brother-in-law Donald McTighe, cousin Margaret Carswell, nephews Michael Southgate and Tim McTighe, niece Sandy McDonald, and close longtime friends Marvella Massie and Ron and Linda Thompson. At her request there will be no funeral service. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Tacoma.
